The prior, as I mentioned before, is something you choose. You basically have to decide on some distribution you think the parameter is likely to obey. But hear me: it doesn’t have to be perfect as long as it’s reasonable! What the prior does is basically give some initial information, like a boost, to your Bayesian modeling. The only thing you should make sure of is to give support to any value you think might be relevant (so always choose a relatively wide distribution). Here for example, I’m going to choose a super uninformative prior: the uniform distribution P(n)=1/N P(n) = 1/N~P(n)=1/N  with n∈[4,N+3]n \in [4, N+3]n∈[4,N+3] for some very large NNN (say 100). Then using Bayes’ theorem, the posterior distribution is P(n∣X)∝1nkP(n | X) \propto \frac{1}{n^k}P(n∣X)∝nk1​.
